What’s the difference between these lists, and when to use them
Hunter Leads gives you powerful tools to organize and manage your prospects, and at the heart of this system are lists. There are two types: Static lists and Dynamic lists. While they both serve to organize leads, they are built for different workflows.
Static lists: Are lists that are static and don't change.
Dynamic lists: Dynamic lists are rule-based or filter-driven views of your lead database. The list updates automatically whenever a lead matches (or stops matching) the filters you’ve set.
What are Static lists?
Static lists are simple list of leads that don't change. You add leads and once they’re in, they stay there until you manually remove or move them to another list.
Use Static lists when you want:
Examples:
A fixed group of leads that doesn’t change over time
To run one-off campaigns (like a test outreach or an event follow-up)
To segment contacts based on a moment in time (like a conference attendee list)
Example scenarios:
Uploading a CSV of leads from a partner event
Creating a list of prospects you manually shortlisted
Running a short-term campaign with a specific set of companies
Use a Static list if:
You want full manual control over your list
You’re working with a group of leads you have imported
You want to freeze a group of leads for tracking
What are Dynamic lists?
Dynamic lists are saved views based on filters. Think of them as smart folders: you set the rules (e.g., “Leads tagged as Interested and owned by Alex”), and Hunter automatically shows you all the leads that match. The list updates itself as lead data is added.
Use Dynamic lists when you want:
Examples:
Live, always-updated views of your lead segments
To always have ready leads to add to a campaign
To save time by automating lead organization
To build workflows and monitor progress
Example scenarios:
A view that always shows leads marked as Hot
Tracking all leads added in the past 7 days
A rolling list of leads ready for outreach
A list of always valid leads to reach out to
Use a Dynamic list if:
You want to save time and avoid manual sorting
You regularly work with evolving lead segments
You need live, up-to-date lists that adapt to changes
How to create a Dynamic list
To create a dynamic leads list, you need to begin from inside a simple Static list. Follow these steps:
Import or Save Leads
Add your leads to a specific leads list in your account.
Apply Filters
Use the available filters to segment your list according to your criteria. These filters will act as rules for your dynamic list.
Save the View
Click on “Save as list”.
Choose List Type
A window will appear, asking you to choose between saving the list as Static or Dynamic:
Static List: This option creates a new list with one-time snapshot of the leads currently visible based on your applied filters.
Dynamic List: This creates a list that continuously updates based on the filters you selected. Whenever new leads are added to your Dynamic list they will be automatically filtered and not be visible if they don't represent the filters applied to your list.
