Password requirements

To protect your Hunter account, your password must meet all of the following rules:

  • Be at least 8 characters long

  • Include at least:

    • 1 uppercase letter

    • 1 lowercase letter

    • 1 number

    • 1 special character (such as ;, :, !, #, etc.)

  • Not include:

    • Your first name

    • Your last name

    • Your email address

    • The word “hunter”

  • Not appear in known public data breaches

Why these rules exist

These requirements are designed to:

  • Reduce the risk of brute-force attacks

  • Prevent common or easily guessed passwords

  • Block passwords that are already known to attackers

Even if a password seems complex, it is not safe if it has been exposed in a previous data breach.

What it means if your password was leaked

Some online services have experienced data breaches. In certain cases, poorly stored passwords were exposed and are now publicly available. Hunter checks passwords against known breach databases using the service Have I Been Pwned: https://haveibeenpwned.com/Passwords

If your chosen password appears in a past breach:

  • It cannot be used for your Hunter account

  • It should be changed everywhere you’ve used it

Once a password is publicly exposed, it is no longer secure.

How to create a strong password

A strong password is:

  • Long (12+ characters is recommended)

  • Unique (not reused anywhere else)

  • Random and not based on personal information

Example structure of a strong password: Blue!Train7:River

Avoid:

  • Names

  • Birthdays

  • Simple patterns like Password123!

We strongly recommend using a password manager, as it helps

  • Generate secure, random passwords

  • Store them safely

  • Prevent password reuse across services

Using a password manager is the safest and most practical way to protect your account.
