What to do if you can't complete sign-up

What to do when a security check, a verification step, or a refused email address stops you creating a Hunter account.

Hunter runs a few automatic checks when you create an account. Most people never notice them, but if one stops you, this article explains what you're seeing and what to do next.

The security check on the sign-up form

The sign-up form runs a security check from Cloudflare before your account is created. It runs in the background — there's nothing on screen to click, and it normally passes on its own.

You'd only notice it if it fails. The usual sign is that nothing happens when you click "Create account", or you get an error saying the verification couldn't be completed. If that's where you are, try these in order:

  1. Reload the page and fill the form in again.

  2. Turn off your VPN or proxy, if you're using one.

  3. Pause ad blockers and privacy extensions for hunter.io, then reload.

  4. Check that your device's date and time are correct — a clock that's out of sync will fail the check.

  5. Try a different browser, or the same browser without private browsing.

👉 Corporate networks sometimes block this check for everyone on the network. If you're on a work connection and none of the steps above help, try signing up from a different network.

You've been asked to verify your account

After your account is created, Hunter may ask you to verify it before you can start using it. You'll be asked for either a phone number or your LinkedIn profile.

This is a one-off identity check. Your phone number is only used to verify the account, and LinkedIn verification confirms your professional identity — it doesn't connect the two accounts or give Hunter access to your LinkedIn profile.

If the verification code doesn't arrive, see I'm not receiving my phone verification code.

If you can't complete verification at all — you don't have access to the number, or the step keeps failing — contact our support team and we'll sort it out with you.

Your email address was refused

If sign-up refuses your email address, the most common reason is that it's already linked to a Hunter account. Hunter allows one account per person, so you'd need to sign in to the original account rather than create a second one.

For what to do in that case, see How many accounts can I create?

Sign-up also needs a professional email address. Disposable and temporary addresses aren't accepted. If you used one, sign up again with your work address.

💡 Don't create a second account to get around a refusal — it makes things harder to untangle later. Contact us instead and we'll help you get into the right account.

Still stuck?

Tell us the email address you're trying to sign up with and what you're seeing on screen, and we'll take a look.
