What are sending statuses
Sending statuses show the latest stage of outreach for each recipient in a sequence.
They help you understand what happened (sent, opened, replied), what’s queued next (scheduled), and what stopped sending (bounced, unsubscribed, canceled, error, successful).
This guide explains:
Every possible sending status and its meaning.
Where to view and filter these statuses in Email Sequences and Leads.
ℹ️ If you’re looking for the status of a whole sequence (Active, Planned, Paused, etc.), read more here: [link to “Sequence statuses in Email Sequences”].
Where sending statuses appear
You can view and filter recipient statuses in three places:
Emails tab (inside a sequence)
Shows the status for each individual email sent to a recipient.Audience tab (inside a sequence)
Shows the recipient’s latest overall status.Leads
Shows the latest sending status for each lead across your outreach history.
ℹ️ If you don’t see the Sending status column in Leads, enable it from the columns menu (the “+” button on the right side of the table header).
Email statuses and what they mean
Status | Description | Additional info |
Sent | Hunter sent the most recent email to the recipient. | The status can later change to Opened, Clicked or Replied (depending on tracking and recipient actions). |
Opened | The recipient opened the latest email. | This requires open tracking to be enabled before sending the sequence. |
Clicked | The recipient clicked a link in your email. | Requires link tracking (available on all All in one outreach paid plans). Changes to Replied if they respond. |
Replied | The recipient replied to your email. | This is a terminal status for that recipient, the sequence stops for them.
Replies appear in your Hunter Inbox. |
Scheduled | An email to this recipient is scheduled for future delivery. | The next email will be sent when the step delay is reached and your sending window and daily limits allow it.
View in your Sequences Queue. |
Bounced | The email could not be delivered. | Future emails are canceled. The recipient is added to your Unsubscriptions list.
If you want to reduce bounces, read more about verifying recipients here. |
Unsubscribed | The recipient clicked an unsubscribe link or asked to be unsubscribed. | Outreach stops permanently for that address from your workspace.
Recipient is added to your Unsubscriptions list. |
Error | An email failed to send due to a technical or configuration issue. | Open the recipient or email details to see the error message.
See Sending errors in Email Sequences or contact Hunter Support for help. |
Canceled | Future emails for this recipient were canceled. | Common reasons:
What to do: hover on the cancellation label to see the exact reason. |
Successful | The recipient was marked as successful. | The sequence stops for that recipient (it’s treated as an outcome met).

Out-of-Office and automatic replies (not a status)
Out-of-office messages don’t show up as a sending status. Instead, Hunter detects them and adds an “Out of Office” tag in your Inbox so you can review the reply.
Detection is based on common auto-reply phrases. Hunter flags a message as out-of-office when one of the following appears within the first 500 characters:
“out of office”
“out of the office”
“away from office”
“away from my desk”
“currently unavailable”
“I will respond upon my return”
“on vacation”
You can review these messages in the Inbox here: https://hunter.io/campaigns/inbox. From there, you can decide what to do next (for example, pause follow-ups for that recipient).
When an out-of-office reply is detected, the recipient’s sending status remains “Sent” because it’s not treated as a real reply. Scheduled follow-ups will continue unless you pause them manually.
