Sequence statuses in Email Sequences

Learn what each sequence status means in Hunter (Draft, Preparing, Planned, Active, Paused, Error, Completed, Archived) and what to do next.

Updated over a week ago

Sequence statuses describe the state of the sequence itself (not an individual recipient). They help you know whether the sequence is ready to launch, currently sending, paused, scheduled, finished, or archived.

ℹ️ If you’re trying to understand what happened to a specific recipient (Sent, Opened, Replied, Scheduled, etc.), read more here.

Where to find sequence statuses

You’ll see the sequence status in:

  • the All Sequences page (status column)

  • the sequence page header (inside the sequence)

Sequence statuses and what they mean

Status

Description

What to do

Draft

The sequence is saved but not launched.

Add recipients, write steps, review settings, then launch.

Preparing

Hunter is preparing the sequence for sending (for example, processing the sequence setup).

This is usually temporary and lasts a few minutes maximum.

If it persists longer than 15 minutes, please contact our support.

Planned

The sequence is scheduled to start in the future (start date/time is set).

Review start date and edit it if needed in the Campaigns Settings tab.

Active

The sequence is live and sending (or ready to send when cadence/window/limits allow).

Monitor progression and replies by clicking on the Sequence.

Read more about handling replies here.

If you want to understand delays due to sending windows or limits, read more here.

Paused

The sequence is paused and will not send emails.

Open the sequence to see the pause reason, then resume when ready.

Error

There is a blocking issue affecting the sequence’s ability to send.

Open the sequence and look at the error provided (usually in the Settings tab). If you want a full diagnostic flow, read more here

Completed

The sequence has finished sending to all recipients (or no recipients remain eligible for next steps).

Add more recipients to use the evergreen sequence feature, duplicate it it to reuse the setup or archive it to keep your list clean.

Archived

The sequence is stored and removed from your active workflow (it won’t send).

Review archived sequences and duplicate the content to re-use it.

🛟 Quick guidance on which status to check

  • “Are emails sending right now?” check sequence status (Active/Paused/Planned)

  • “What happened to this recipient?” check recipient statuses (Sent/Opened/Replied/etc.)

  • “Why is nothing sending?” use the diagnostic guide.
