How to save leads or companies in Hunter

Learn how to save your leads found through Hunter or import leads from an external CSV file.

You can find and save leads and companies in Hunter in several ways โ€” while searching for emails, using the browser extension, adding them manually, or importing a file.

This guide explains when leads are saved automatically, how to organize them into lists, and what to expect after saving or importing.

Find and save leads:


Save leads while finding emails on Hunter's website (automatic)

When you reveal an email address in Discover, the Domain Search or Email Finder, the lead is automatically saved to your account.

  • The lead appears in Leads โ†’ All People

  • No additional action is required

Add leads to a specific list

After revealing emails, they are automatically saved to your All People default leads list.

You also have the option to add them to a specific leads list by clicking โ€œAdd to a Listโ€ or selecting โ€œSave to a specific leads list,โ€ depending on the tool youโ€™re using.

From there, you can choose an existing list or create a new one.


Save leads from the Chrome Extension or Firefox Add-on

You can also save leads while surfing the web using Hunter's Chrome Extension or Hunter's Firefox Add-on .

Save a contact from the extension

  1. Open the Hunter browser extension

  2. Click Save next to the contact

  3. Select the destination list at the bottom of the extension


Add a lead manually from the Leads page

You can create a lead directly inside Hunter.

Step 1: Open your list

  1. Go to Leads

  2. Select a list from the left panel you want to add the new lead to

  3. Click + New Lead (top-right corner)

Leads can be added manually, one by one, directly from the Leads page.

Step 2: Enter lead details

  1. Fill in the required information:

    • An email address, or

    • A full name + company name/domain

  2. (Optional) Add additional fields

  3. Click Save

You can also add up to 50 custom attributes:

  • Click + New custom attribute

  • Enter the attribute name

  • Save


Import leads or companies from a file (CSV import)

If you already have a list, you can upload it using Leads Import.

Step 1: Start the import

  1. Go to Leads

  2. Click + Import leads (top-right corner)

Step 2: Upload and map your file

  1. Select your CSV or TXT file

  2. Map your file columns to Hunter attributes

  3. Click Next

Step 3: Configure import preferences

You can:

  • Select the destination list

  • Enrich leads

  • Verify email addresses

  • Find missing email addresses

  • Decide on how to handle existing contacts

If your configuration uses credits, such as for verifying or finding emails, the estimated usage will be displayed before starting. Click Start import to confirm.


What to expect after importing?

After you have successfully imported your leads, there are a few ting to keep in mind.

  • Leads are added to the selected list

  • Large imports may take several minutes

  • If some of the leads failed to import, you can review the error message inside your "Leads Import" history section.

  • Imported leads are enriched with available Hunter data at no additional cost. (paid plan)

  • If your file included existing leads, these will be handled as indicated by you during the preferences setup.

Save companies to your leads

You can save companies found with Discover as Leads.

Saved companies appear in the Companies tab inside Leads, where you can:
